Over a century ago, the father of Impressionism emerged with his revolutionary paintings capturing the beauty of the French mundane life and the nature around him. Instead of carving out the intricate forms of the human body or creating historical depictions, Claude Monet focused on his perception of nature--the feeling of the air blowing on the grass, the texture of the wispy clouds moving above, and the colors of the sun reflecting on the dynamic shores of Normandy.
As I traveled the beautiful landscapes of northern Italy, I got reminded of Monet's artistic connection between reality and impressionist painting. Returning to the studio with newfound inspiration, I decided to study his process. Through this painting of Lake Como, the Impressionists have taught me to instead slow the rush and appreciate the subtleties of nature's warm touch that surrounds me.
